    • Appointed by President Obama as DHS’s first Deputy Under Secretary for Cybersecurity
    • Vice President and Chief Security Officer at the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC)
    • Appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as California’s first Chief Information Security Officer
    • Chief Information Security Officer for the State of Colorado
    • US Navy Cryptologic Officer

    The evolution from perimeter-centric, hardware-based IT environments to virtualized data centers and the cloud is upon us. As CIO’s and CISO’s are forced from traditional strategic CapEx investments into more tactical OpEx spending, the economic efficiencies of on-premise data center virtualization and public cloud validate the future of the cloud. However, security models that don’t sufficiently address workload and application-aware segmentation, lateral traffic visibility, and network-based threat detection leave a huge gap in an organization's overall security posture. When you add IOT spending that is predicted to reach $1.29T by 2020, John Chambers 2014 stated that, “The Internet of Things will be five to ten times more impactful in the next decade than the entire Internet has been to date” is the new reality. This talk will explore how the Cloud and IOT technologies are changing the world and why security needs to be a larger part of the conversation.

    Dr Steven Wong is the President of the Association of Information Security Professionals (AISP). His full-time job is as an Associate Professor and Programme Director at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) where he spearheaded the first Information Security degree programme offered by an autonomous university in Singapore. Steven has nearly two decades of academic, research and industry experience, and was involved in projects funded over 250 million dollars. Other than AISP, Steven also actively volunteers in leadership positions for multiple ICT related organisations and associations both in Singapore as well as in the APAC region. Positions he has held include the co-Chairman of CREST Singapore, the co-Chairman of the Cloud Security Alliance APAC Education Council, the Co-Chairman of IDA WG3 Telecommunications Standards Advisory Committee, the Chairman of the IEEE Consumer Electronics (Singapore) chapter, etc.


    As Singapore adopts more technology in its drive to boost productivity through digitisation as well as to achieve its goal to become a Smart Nation, there is an increasing need for a vibrant cybersecurity ecosystem to be established to help protect these cyber assets and infrastructures.
    In this talk, the various stakeholders in the cybersecurity eco-system will be briefly introduced and some examples of how the community-of-practice can support the continuous development of this eco-system will be presented. This includes the development of a Body-of-Knowledge (BoK) to support the common understanding of terminologies, definitions and knowledge requirements in the various disciplines of cybersecurity which may in turn, provide a platform for mutual recognition of cybersecurity professionals across borders.
